Angelina Jolie to star in a spy movie

And rumor has it, she replaced Tom Cruise for the lead role! Now, how is cool that?? An actress replacing an actor in an ACTION movie!! Angelina Jolie is definitely a certified action star! According to reports, “Edwin A. Salt” is an espionage thriller once set to star Tom Cruise but will now be redrafted by screenwriter Kurt Wimmer to suit the actress. The film will reunite Angelina Jolie with her “Bone Collector” director, Philip Noyce. She is set to play a CIA officer who’s accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy and must elude capture long enough to establish her innocence.

After Tom Cruise passed up (the studio apparently couldn’t afford his $20 million talent fee), several actors made a beeline for it. But when Angelina Jolie took a liking to it, Columbia Pictures decided to rewrite the script for a female lead. Variety applauded the decision as the actress “is the rare female who is viable in the action genre, which has been almost the exclusive domain of men.” FYI, Angie’s latest action movie “Wanted” grossed $132 million domestically.
